Lorde has proved herself to be the perfect day drinking partner during her recent appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers.
In the first edition of Meyers’ Day Drinking segment since the pandemic, the New Zealand pop star took shots and gamely knocked back the host’s experimental cocktails inspired by her songs. How many other pop stars would take a concoction with a giant spare rib in it and, instead of politely sipping on it, take a giant chunk out of the meat?
Across the 12-minute video, as both she and Meyers got increasingly drunker, Lorde quizzed the TV personality on her full name (Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor, fact fans), New Zealand slang and took part in a competition to recreate the artwork for her second album ‘Melodrama’.
The only time she looked like she wanted to be rescued from her current situation was when Meyers put on some headphones and tried to sing along to her 2017 banger ‘Green Light’. “I don’t like this,” she moaned with her head in her hands, but after a minute she started to get into it. Watch Lorde chug rib cocktails and do an admirable amount of shots below.
The star’s second album ‘Solar Power’ will be released next month (August 20) and yesterday, she shared the second track from it in ‘Stoned At The Nail Salon’. The song features backing vocals from Clairo and Phoebe Bridgers again, following the two US musicians teaming up with Lorde on the record’s title track, which was released last month.
