The 1975 have recruited Phoebe Bridgers on new single ‘I’m In Love With You’. In the music video, which sees Matty Healy and bandmates dressed as clowns, Bridgers has a brief cameo reading a newspaper as a clown on a bench. Watch the video at the top of the page.
She also sings backing vocals on the song, appearing again at the end of the video, playing as part of the band.
This is not the first time Bridgers and The 1975 have collaborated, with the singer featuring on ‘Jesus Christ 2005 God Bless America’, a song from the band’s fourth studio album, ‘Notes On A Conditional Form’.
Bridgers has shared some backstage photos from the video shoot, taken by boyfriend Paul Mescal.
Fans have been quick to spot that this music video has a place in the wider 1975 universe. One fan on YouTube writes: “The story goes “I’m in love with you”; thrown in the “everyone is disappointing once you get to know them” hidden message; straight into “change of heart” followed by “somebody else”. I’m obsessed.”
Fans are saying that the song is further proof that upcoming album, ‘Being Funny In A Foreign Language‘ will be a return to the “classic” synth-led dance-pop that sent The 1975 stratospheric on albums ‘I Like It When You Sleep For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It’ and ‘A Brief Enquiry Into Online Relationships’.
Being Funny In A Foreign Language is due for release on October 14 2022.
