Ever since Cardi B burst onto the scene with her red bottoms and no-filter commentary, hip-hop was changed forever. The media tried their best to pit her against rap’s reigning Queen, Nicki Minaj, the implication being there’s only space for one woman in rap. But Cardi’s rise showed waves of young women that they too could make it big. From Megan Thee Stallion’s huge chart success (and a BeyoncĂ© collab) to brand new voices like Bree Runway, the last two years have been game changing for hip-hop, with more young women in the UK and US spitting bars than ever before.
