Even if you’re thousands of miles away from New York, you’ll know by now that the city experienced a 4.8 magnitude earthquake today (April 5). With no major injuries or damage done, the internet did what it does best in the immediate aftermath – convened on social media to instantly turn the incident into one big meme.

Native New Yorker Ice Spice wasn’t about to be left out of the fun. Where others shared images from pop culture to make their followers laugh, the Bronx rapper took another tact – taking the blame for the earthquake herself.

“My bad for the earthquake y’all u kno this ass be clappin,” she wrote on Twitter. A pretty impressive claim, considering it’s one of the largest quakes the east coast has experienced in 100 years.

If Ice Spice is that powerful, then California better watch out. The rapper is headed west next weekend to perform at Coachella, joining a bill that features the likes of Lana Del Rey, No Doubt, Atarashii Gakko!, Suki Waterhouse, saucy billboard queen Sabrina Carpenter, and more.

Meanwhile, Ice is prepping more new music following January’s ‘Think U The Shit (Fart)’. Her debut album ‘Y2K’ is on the way, with the record available to pre-order now. She confirmed she’d finished making the album in March, writing on Instagram, “I finished recording y2k the album”, alongside some new posed images of herself.

‘Y2K’ will follow the star’s acclaimed EP ‘Like..?’, which was released in 2023 and contained tracks like ‘In Ha Mood’ and ‘Princess Diana’. A deluxe version later added more songs to the tracklist, including the single ‘Munch (Feelin’ U)’.
