Charlotte Gainsbourg returns after eight years with new track ‘Blurry Moon’

Eight years after her last release, Charlotte Gainsbourg returns with new single Blurry Moon – a spectral collaboration with Saint Laurent’s Anthony Vaccarello and longtime producer SebastiAn.

Charlotte Gainsbourg has released her first song in eight years – and it arrives wrapped in Saint Laurent black.

With new track ‘Blurry Moon’, the French singer resurfaces in characteristic cinematic style. Written and performed by Gainsbourg, the track is co-produced by Saint Laurent and Because Music, arranged by SebastiAn, and brought to life in a video that marks the directorial debut of Saint Laurent creative director Anthony Vaccarello.

Shot on Mulholland Drive in Los Angeles, the short film channels David Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti as Gainsbourg takes the wheel of a car that soon seems to drive itself – a subtle metaphor for memory, loss and drift. Vaccarello, known for curating Saint Laurent’s dialogue with film and art, frames the Hollywood Hills in hazy chiaroscuro, where glamour dissolves into melancholy.

The result is a return that feels both intimate and spectral: Gainsbourg’s voice emerging once more, suspended in Saint Laurent’s noir aesthetic. It’s a reminder of her singular ability to occupy the space between actor, singer and storyteller – always just out of reach, always compelling.

The actor, musician and eternal muse last released an album in 2017 with ‘Rest’, a deeply personal collection shaped by grief and her collaborations with SebastiAn, who once again steps in as producer here. Since then, Gainsbourg has kept a lower musical profile, with only a handful of live appearances and acting roles keeping her in the public eye.
