The BRIT Awards is over for another year and one woman had the night of her life. RAYE made BRITs history by taking home six awards from her seven nominations. It was a triumphant night for the independent solo artist who finally released her debut album, ‘My 21st Century Blues’ in 2023 after being released from her stifling label contract.
Over half of this year’s nominations featured women – supported by category changes for 2024 that saw The BRITs extend the number of nominees in the Artist of the Year categories from five to ten and the introduction of a new R&B genre award; and the winners last night continued to reflect this level of representation, with three quarters of award wins featuring women and non-binary people.
