Blu DeTiger has announced the upcoming release of her debut EP ‘How Did We Get Here?’ and shared new single ‘Vintage’.
The New York singer-songwriter and bassist premiered the new track on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show earlier today (January 28).
In a press release, she explained the funk-tinged pop track was her attempt at flipping gender dynamics. “I sing about needing a ‘vintage boy’ – not to take me out on the town or to make me feel special – but to be an accessory to my sick outfit,” DeTiger said.
“Usually the perspective is from the guy, who has a girlfriend as his arm candy. In my version, the girl is still the main character. The song is meant to empower, along with highlighting the characters that I often run into in New York City.”
In the video, which was directed by Kevin Lombardo, a raft of men are transported to DeTiger’s location via blue squares drawn on the city streets. Watch it below now.
‘How Did We Get Here?’ will be released on March 5 and follows the 21-year-old’s previous singles, the viral hit ‘Figure It Out’ and ‘Cotton Candy Lemonade’.
DeTiger has previously toured with the likes of Caroline Polachek, Fletcher and The Knocks, and has been a fixture on the New York DJ scene (and around the world) since she was 17.
Recently, the New Yorker collaborated with one of The Forty-Five’s Future Five artists, Lava La Rue. She appeared on the Town Bird remix of La Rue’s song ‘Angel’.
DeTiger has also teamed up with another rising musician in Claud – the first signing to Phoebe Bridgers’ Saddest Factory label. She will appear on Claud’s forthcoming debut album ‘Super Monster’, alongside the likes of Clairo, Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s Jake Portrait and more.
