On ‘Home By Now’ MUNA are questioning their decisions. The eighties-infused synth-pop banger from the LA trio, sees them having doubts about ending a relationship. It’s another heart-breaking party song to add to their already very good canon. The answer though, MUNA, seeing as you asked is no: never lower your expectations.
NoSo – ‘Parasites’
NoSo is one of our favourite discoveries of this year. On hypnotic new track, ‘Parasites’, the Korean-American artist speaks to their younger self, assuring them there’s hope in the future. Written in the foggy haze of waking up from top surgery, NoSo (real name, Abby Hwong) felt it important in that moment to write a song to themself, over dreamy and romantic instrumentals, as opposed to a love interest. For fans of London Grammar and The XX.
Rico Nasty – ‘Intrusive’
“Putting on my makeup / ready to slash throats.” Rico Nasty has long sprinkled a little punk attitude on her high-energy rap but never more than on ‘Intrusive’. It’s the don’t-fuck-with-me anthem we all need from time to time and shows even more versatility from the Maryland artist.
Beabadoobee – ‘lovesong’
Beabadoobee is preparing to release her second album, ‘Beatopia’. By now, the singer (real name Bea Kristi) has honed her brand of bedroom pop: sweet songs about growing up. This one may be “just another love song” as Kristi puts it but fans of the artist will know it to be a dedication to her long-term boyfriend, Soren. Adorable.
