Charli XCX has made a documentary, titled Alone Together, the star has revealed.
The film will follow the pop star during the making of her 2020 album ‘How I’m Feeling Now’, which was created entirely under quarantine restrictions at the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
Directed by Bradley Bell and Pablo Jones-Soler, Alone Together will show XCX going on a “whirlwind creative and romantic journey while making an album in 40 days that unites a community around the world”, according to an official synopsis.
The musician confirmed the news in an Instagram post yesterday (February 10), captioning a poster for the film: “hi i’m happy to announce that Alone Together, the first ever documentary feature film I’ve been a part of / the protagonist of is premiering at @sxsw film festival on March 18th 2021.
“The documentary tells the story of not only the 5 week process surrounding the making of my album, how i’m feeling now, but also all the emotions that creating, connecting and living in a quarantine and in basically a new world evokes for people across the globe.”
Filmmakers Bell and Jones-Soler previously worked with XCX on the music video for her collaboration with Troye Sivan, ‘1999’.
Alone Together will premiere during this year’s virtual SXSW festival. It will debut during the film festival portion of the event, closing out the film strand on March 20.
Other music films and documentaries set to air during SXSW include Demi Lovato’s Dancing With The Devil docuseries and Tom Petty, Somewhere You Feel Free. The former will look at the pop star’s life over the last three years, including her near-fatal overdose in 2018.
Poly Styrene: I Am A Cliché, which follows the X-Ray Spex frontwoman’s daughter Celeste Bell “on a journey across the world and through her mother’s archives to reconcile their fraught relationship”, will be shown as part of the 24 Beats Per Second programme. Delia Derbyshire – The Myths And The Legendary Tapes will also premiere, looking at the legacy of the electronic sound pioneer.
