Robyn – ‘Blow My Mind’
We called it early, but Robyn’s already won 2026. There’s something especially cool about writing a dance anthem that masquerades as a relationship track, but is actually just about loving your literal baby. Take ‘Blow My Mind’: “And the way you’re talking, baby you’re so cool / I’d do anything, anything for you.” It slaps hard enough that the gays and the guys might be completely oblivious to the fact that it’s about the marvel of procreation. Plus, Robyn gets 10 points for keeping the entire album to a tight 29 minutes. A succinct queen.
Underscores – ‘Innuendo (I Get U)’
Is it hyperpop? Not really. What is it then? Glitchy, dancey R&B? 00s EDM dreampop? Last month, Underscores dropped a record that was the closest thing we’ve had to Britney’s ‘Blackout’ in a very long time. This song sums up the vibe pretty well – stick it out to post 2:52 and tell me your arms aren’t in the air.
SLAG – ‘Private Gyno’
This track sounds like it’s straight off Shine II. If that doesn’t mean anything to you, that probably means you should be listening to Slag because – like you – they’re cute and young and a lot of fun. The Brighton group have been together for a few years but have just dropped their debut EP – ‘Losing’; five tracks that suggest that Slag are one of the UK’s brightest new bands. The EP is a bit mathy, a bit proggy, and a whole lot indie. And Amelie Gibson’s commanding vocals have a hint of Justine Frischmann about them.
Sans Soucis – ‘Hypervision’
Gosh, this track is beautiful. Sans Soucis was in our Future Five back in 2022 and it’s been great to watch their journey since then. They just dropped a new four-track EP, ‘Trans’ which is 50% stuttering stream-of-consciousness electronica alongside two more soulful melodies. In 10 minutes, the EP tackles identity, politics, power and Kendrick and Drake’s diss tracks. ‘Hypervision’ is a weep-worthy acoustic ballad about existing in the world as a trans person. It’s gorgeous.
Charlotte Cornfield – ‘Lost Leader’
The new Charlotte Cornfield album is exceptionally good and you should really listen to it from front to back. (It’s reignited a big pedal steel obsession in this house.) On ‘Lost Leader’, she has teamed up with Christian Lee Hutson (artist in his own right, Phoebe Bridgers collaborator and the new Mr Maya Hawke) to write a song about a washed-up musician, still getting drunk and hanging out on the ‘scene’ with kids half his age. It’s a perfect character study of a person we’ve all met, and proves Cornfield is as adept at writing about others as she is drawing from personal experience.
