It's been over a year since the release of 'Fall And Rise of a Midwest Princess', the record that changed Kayleigh Amstutz' life. Here's everything we know about LP2 from Chappell Roan.

In the last eighteen months, everything has changed for Chappell Roan. You will have seen the video of her performing ‘Pink Pony Club’ to almost nobody back in 2021, cut with one of this summer’s gigantic festival crowds singing the same song. After a slow start, she’s topped the charts around the world and debut album, ‘The Rise And Fall of a Midwest Princess’ has continued to gain momentum, long after its release.

That said, the fansosphere is never content and it’s already asking when we’ll get a follow up to her mammoth debut. With a few little hints starting to trickle through, we thought it about time we rounded up everything we know about Chappell Roan’s upcoming second album.

When will Chappell Roan release a new album?

On October 29th Chappell teased fans during a Instagram promo for a new vinyl pressing for ‘The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess’

“Album kinda popped off but it is time to welcome a hot new bombshell into the villa”. Iconic? definitely. A Love Island-coded album tease? Almost certainly. But when, Chappell, when?

On Saturday Night Live, on 2 November 2024, Chappell Roan played brand new song, ‘The Giver’: a country-pop track about girls loving girls. In a spoken word bridge throughout the song, Roan said: “All you country boys saying you know how to threat a woman right. Well, only a woman knows how to treat a woman right. She gets the job done.” Some fans have debated whether there is a political message to the song, which aired a few days before the US election. A major dividing debate this year between Trump and Harris is the governance of women’s bodies. Roan has remained neutral on her stance, claiming that both candidates are problematic.

The song and performance initially appeared on the SNL YouTube account but has now been removed. Is it because Chappell wasn’t happy with the performance? Or for another reason entirely?

This track, we think, had been teased by Roan and producer Dan Nigro for a couple of months. Earlier this month (October) Nigro, said that he has once again been working with Chappell and they had five songs ready. Teasing “a new sound”, he went on to say they had banked a “fun, up-tempo country song” – presumably ‘The Giver’ – “a mid-tempo rock song and a couple of ballads”.

In September, Chappell told NME that her new music was an amalgamation of sounds and genres. “We have a country song. We have a dancey song. We have one that’s really eighties, and we have one that’s acoustic, and we have one that’s really organic, live-band, seventies vibe. It’s super weird.”

For now, that’s all we know about Chappell Roan’s new album – or CR2 – but watch this space – we’ll update this page with more info as soon as we have it.
