For the last year, BLACKPINK’s Jennie has been treating fans to a preview of new solo material from her on the group’s ‘Born Pink’ world tour.

The show, which saw the four-piece become the first K-pop act to headline Coachella, featured all four members holding their own solo performances, with Rosé, Jisoo and Lisa all airing covers or material that had already been released. Instead of digging out her 2018 solo debut ‘Solo’, though, Jennie took a different tact and performed an unreleased track called ‘You & Me’.

During BLACKPINK’s historic Coachella 2023 performance, Jennie delivered an updated version of ‘You & Me’ that included a new rap verse and a dance break. Now, the song – and a ‘Coachella Remix’ – have been registered with the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP). Now, YG Entertainment has announced the single will be given an official release on Friday (October 6).

Jennie has spoken about working on new music lately, telling Harper’s Bazaar Korea (per Korea JoongAng Daily): “I’m making a song that’s by Jennie, the most Jennie and something unique that is only Jennie’s.” Could more solo music from the star be on the way?

Outside of BLACKPINK’s group activities, Jennie has so far only released one official solo single in ‘Solo’. She was the first member of the group to have an individual release, although all four members have now shared their own music. She also appeared in The Weeknd’s HBO series The Idol earlier this year and teamed up with the Canadian singer on the song ‘One Of The Girls’, which featured on the show’s soundtrack.

Jennie’s next solo move comes amid BLACKPINK’s contract renewal saga with YG Entertainment, which is currently ongoing. The group’s contract is thought to have expired in August, with three of the band rumoured not to be re-signing with the agency.
