Hannah Jadagu – ‘Doing Now’
Texan soloist Hannah Jadagu pulls off a timelessness that is rare to find in modern pop music. New single ‘Doing Now’ exemplifies the beauty in simplicity. The laid-back track has an uncomplicated yet magnetic chorus, looped over a low-key melody that begs for a second listen. Jadagu’s second LP ‘Describe,’ featuring ‘Doing Now’ as well as previous single ‘My Love,’ drops on October 24.
Charlotte Dos Santos – ‘Pot Of Gold’
Charlotte Dos Santos has been compared to Erykah Badu and Amy Winehouse – and for good reason. Two years on from her last release, the Brazilian-Norweigian jazz musician is back with a bang. Aptly-named new single ‘Pot Of Gold’ showcases her sumptuous soprano vocals with high notes to die for. Backed by a soulful melody, the track is topped off with sultry spoken word sections and a layered choral effect.
Frost Children – ‘Bound2U’
Sibling duo Frost Children, made up of Angel and Lulu Prost, have mastered the craft of hedonistic electropop with their latest single. Combining hyperpop, scene vocals, and apocalyptic broken beats, ‘Bound2U’ could easily have been pulled straight out of 2010. The track is a head-banging dancefloor anthem, alternating wildly between hard and soft. Their new album, ‘SISTER,’ will be released in full on September 12.
runo plum – ‘Sickness’
The Minnesota-born folk singer-songwriter has given us the first taste of her upcoming debut album, ‘patching’. Opening track ‘Sickness,’ which was released as a single this week, is drenched with the vulnerability of a coming-of-age film. Its accompanying video is a whimsical, home-footage-style montage which delicately complements Plum’s indie folk stylings. Perfect for fans of Leith Ross and Lizzy McAlpine.
TTSSFU – ‘Forever’
TTSSFU has attracted a myriad of critical attention – not just for her musical talent, but her wicked sense of humour (she got the better of nepo baby allegations before they started by claiming on Spotify that Leonard Cohen is her grandfather. He isn’t.) The Wigan-born artist, also known as Tamsin Stephens, makes bedroom pop in its most literal sense. Smooth and dreamy, her latest track ‘Forever’ is a would-be shoegaze classic.
