Doja Cat returns today (September 22) with her new album ‘Scarlet’ but, before fans even heard it, the record was causing a stir on social media thanks to reactions to its artwork.
One Twitter user posted a compilation of all of the rapper’s artwork so far, from the peach tones of ‘Amala’, to ‘Hot Pink’’s eye-catching portrait, and the intergalactic hues of ‘Planet Her’. ‘Scarlet’, meanwhile, is the first of Dojo’s albums not to feature her on the cover, instead putting two spiders with pearlescent bodies front and centre.
“Doja Cat never disappoints when it comes to having unique cover arts for her albums,” the original poster wrote, provoking another user to respond: “Until those ugly ass ticks.”

The comment didn’t go unnoticed by Doja herself, who waded into the debate raging in the comments to put people straight. “The art I chose for my album is beautiful and I like it a lot,” she replied. “The two spiders signify conquering your fear.
“None of my album covers had meaning until this album. You not accepting me was a fear I used to have. I don’t care anymore about satisfying you.”
On ‘Scarlet’ itself, the star is also lighting up social media with her reference to Billie Eilish. On the track ‘Ouchies’, she raps: “A hundred Billies, I’m the GOAT, no Eilish.”
While some have taken it to be a diss, others have pointed out that Doja has previously proclaimed herself a fan of the singer and attended her birthday party last year. In a recent livestream, she sang part of Eilish’s ‘Ocean Eyes’ for her own fans.
