Ticketmaster has announced that it will release additional tickets for Taylor Swift‘s Eras Tour following the ticketing company’s pre-sale debacle last month. After the site crashed and left thousands of fans unable to buy tickets, Ticketmaster issued an apology and said that it will offer some fans a second chance to buy tickets. The ticketing company explained that it was the result of “bot attacks and massive demand”. Fans who received a “boost” during the Verified Fan presale but did not purchase tickets will be given the opportunity to request two tickets.
On December 12, some fans received emails which read: “Congratulations, you have been selected to participate in a limited-time opportunity to request to purchase 2 tickets to Taylor Swift The Eras Tour. ‘You were selected for this opportunity because you have been identified as a fan who received a boost during the Verified Fan presale but did not purchase tickets. ‘We apologized for the difficulties you may have experienced, and have been asked by Taylor’s team to create this additional opportunity for you to purchase tickets.’
Fans will be able to purchase tickets ahead of December 23, and ‘invitations will be staggered by tour dates in each city. A fresh statement on the Ticketmaster website read:
‘You were identified as a fan who received a boost during the Verified Fan presale but did not purchase tickets. We apologize for the difficulties you may have experienced, and have been asked by Taylor’s team to create this additional opportunity for you to purchase tickets. All fans receiving this opportunity were notified via email on Monday, December 12. Notified fans will receive their individual invite to submit their purchase request prior to Friday, December 23. Invitations will be staggered by tour dates in each city.
Ticketmaster claimed that only 15% of purchases were affected by the issues on November 15th but it made worldwide news, with some fans suing the company. Swift herself expressed her disappointment on social media saying that she asked Ticketmaster “multiple times if they could handle this kind of demand and were assured they could”. Despite the issues, over two million fans were able to buy tickets to the Eras Tour, the most for any tour in history.
