Montreal grunge band, DISHPIT, released a new track today and announced their upcoming debut album, ‘DIPSHIT’, out March 12.
New track, ‘This Time’ is a scuzzy post-punk track with a video filmed deep in the snowy, Canadian wilds.
Of the track, frontwoman Nora said: “‘This Time’ is the most honest and personal song on the album. “How did you know I’d stay silent, stay weak?” is screamed amidst an ordered mayhem of abrasive guitars and drums. The “Me Too” movement has given widespread attention and support to survivors of sexual assault, who had previously been silenced by fears of being challenged or disbelieved if they revealed their trauma. For me, the writing of this song marked the first public expression of my own experiences; they were no longer suppressed or muted but yelled in rage for the world to hear.”
Carving out their niche in the Montreal music scene, DISHPIT take inspiration from riot grrrl, grunge, and post-punk, but bring a freaky, femme energy that is distinctly them.
DISHPIT’s road to releasing their debut album has been a little more winding than intended. The trio toured the UK in 2017, with shows at Liverpool Sound City & The Great Escape, which got them a record deal. They started recording their debut album in winter 2018 with legendary producer Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies) and began releasing a series of well-received singles, performing to bigger audiences across Canada, all the while awaiting for their label to release the album. Unfortunately, the label collapsed before it could come out.
After some legal wrangling, ‘DIPSHIT’ is finally ready to be released – just before the three-piece head back to the studio to begin work on their second album.
