Grammy-winning star Chapell Roan experienced an extremely awkward fan interaction during a TikTok live this week. Roan was promoting her new single ‘The Giver’, when she mistakenly added a random viewer to join her stream. At the time, the TikTok Live had over 25,000 viewers, who found this cringeworthy interaction hilarious.
The man who joined made the situation even more awkward by refusing to leave the livestream, and instead challenged Roan to a ‘match’- a TikTok livestream feature that allows creators to battle for points from viewers, with the eventual winner earning real-life money.
Roan was clearly confused and slightly panicked as she realised she couldn’t remove him from the livestream, repeatedly asking ‘Sorry, can you leave?’ However, the TikTok user was determined to proceed with the ‘match.’ The man continued to ignore her requests and even went so far as to ask her viewers to ‘follow me back!’ Despite Roan pleading with him to leave in both English and Urdu, the man remained persistent.

Fans were amazed at Roan’s ability to speak Urdu, and many have enjoyed clips of the video, which have surfaced across social media. Users have debated whether the man was aware of who Roan is, as he seemed unfazed despite the thousands of viewers watching. What makes the clips particularly funny is that Roan and her creative director Misha Sattar both appeared more flustered by the situation, than the man himself.
The interaction came to an end when Roan realised she had no choice but to end the livestream in order to kick the man out. Clips of the ordeal have gone viral, with one video of the event on YouTube having over 630,000 views, whilst another on X has over 4.3 million views and close to 100,000 likes.
This unexpected moment will give her new song ‘The Giver’ even more publicity – not that it needs it. The track is set to be promoted on popular Country radio stations, broadening her fanbase and continuing the trend of pop stars venturing into the country market. Roan recently mentioned that the Country influence on her latest track stems from her childhood in Missouri. Everything Roan touches seems to go viral – including TikTok livestreams – and her newest single is no exception.
