AVA MAX – ‘DANCING’S DONE’
“I wanna give in to your dark temptation,” Ava Max teases on her menacing new single, the latest preview of the singer’s forthcoming second album ‘Diamonds & Dancefloors’. “People like you and me were born to run / So where we going when the dancing’s done?” she sings atop a splicing beat, a track that’s equal parts high romance, twisted disco and escapist fantasy.
GABRIELLE APLIN – ‘GOOD ENOUGH’
Ever since her haunting rendition of ‘The Power Of Love’ stole hearts in the 2012 John Lewis Christmas advert, UK singer-songwriter Aplin has proved that her spectral vocals are capable of doing a lot with a little. “Tell me how I can be good enough,” she pleads on the sweetly sincere new track, as she yearns to mirror an idolised loved one who’s “more than just someone”.
COI LERAY – ‘WASTED’
“Energy wasted / mentally wasted / Everything just feel wasted / I just wasted,” the US rapper and singer despairs in a hopeless refrain on her latest single, a disillusioned lament about giving up the fight for love after sacrificing too much of yourself. “You was sellin’ me heaven but givin’ me hell, that’s a fatal attraction,” she asserts, her voice deflated above a hushed, lovesick R&B melody.
TWICE TZUYU – ‘CHRISTMAS WITHOUT YOU (AVA MAX)’
The Ava Max hype is real right now, and just a few days before Christmas Twice’s Tzuyu has gifted fans with a sparkling cover of the singer’s 2020 festive single. “Wherever you go, you light up the room / I hope that you’ll make it back home soon,” she sings on the shimmering, head-bobbing track atop jingling sleigh bells.
TOKYO TEA ROOM – ‘FEEL YOUR HEART’
The second single from the Kent DIY collective’s new EP ‘No Future Plans’ paints a lucid daydream about longing to feel again. Bubbling beats, seductive vocals and muted synths make this swirling track as meditative as it is low-key groovy.
