Noname has returned with a new song called ‘Rainforest’ – her first piece of new material this year.
The Chicago artist has also confirmed, after much teasing, that her new album ‘Factory Baby’ will be released later this year. Exact details, including a release date are yet to be confirmed.
“How you lemonade all your sadness when you openin’ up?/ How you make excuses for billionaires, you broke on the bus?,” she raps on ‘Rainforest’. The track was produced by The Kount and features vocals from Noname’s longtime collaborator Adam Ness.

‘Factory Baby’ will mark the artist’s second album, following 2018’s ‘Room 25’. Noname first came to attention thanks to a feature on Chance The Rapper’s ‘Acid Rap’ mixtape back in 2013. Since then, she has also released her own mixtape in 2016’s ‘Telefone’ and worked with the likes of Jamila Woods, Jeremih, Mick Jenkins and more.
Last year, she shared the song ‘Song 33’ – a reply track to J. Cole appearing to call her out on his track ‘Snow On Tha Bluff’. “It’s something about the queen tone that’s botherin’ me,” he rapped on it, before talking about an unnamed woman who is mad at “crackers, capitalists, police and celebrities”.
Before the track came out, Noname had tweeted about the response to George Floyd’s murder: “Poor black folks all over the country are putting their bodies on the line in protest for our collective safety and y’all favorite top selling rappers not even willing to put a tweet up.”
Cole later said that he “love[d] and honour[ed] her as a leader in these times”. Noname, meanwhile, said she regretted releasing ‘Song 33’ because she “tried to use it as a moment to draw attention back to the issues i care about but i didn’t have to respond”.
“My ego got the best of me,” she added. “I apologise for any further distraction this caused.”
