alienate people or people wouldn't be

able to connect with it but i realized

empathize more like the more specific

has that kind of emboldened you to do

more of that and being more specific on

the next stuff that you write and

love when artists are like super upfront

about things so i think yeah there's a

lot of things that have just definitely

solidified

intentions to keep doing this so

uh this album is kind of turning your

lens more on yourself and your

relationship with you instead of other

people um when you first started writing

like that was that kind of like a bit of

a process to get used to or to kind of

allow yourself to open up fully in that

it was it was really strange because

i think it wasn't necessarily

intentional it was just

a pro a product like of my

environment at the time because i guess

i didn't start writing in lockdown but

all of the things i was experiencing

were kind of like i was processing them

during lockdown um

and then when that eventually when i was

free

that's when i actually started like

dissecting these experiences and

actually wanting to vocalize them but i

think that because i was in like such an

isolation so was everyone um

that i wasn't really thinking about

interacting with people or

the way i was perceiving my

relationships at all because

there didn't seem to be any like i felt

so detached from everyone that

that wasn't the material i was kind of

naturally

creating so

yeah i think i just ended up

writing about everything that was on my

mind that was super internal so

you find that usually like in normal

times that your inspiration would have

come from like interactions or things

that people said to you and stuff like

yeah definitely because i'm such

an overthinker as it is and i will

analyze every single social interaction

to such an extent

that like i felt like it came so

naturally to me to write about it and

it's way

less vulnerable to be an observer like

you don't have to really

tap into anything

think and talk about other people like

obviously it's still a projection of

yourself but it's not

yeah it doesn't feel as scary or

exposing

yeah i think as well because when i was

younger i wasn't as in touch with my

feelings because i didn't have to be and

i didn't want to be and i think as i get

older that is something i'm really

trying to work on like actually

acknowledging the way i feel about

it's been definitely helpful for me to

be able to write about it

um yeah i was going to say the album

kind of feels like a journey of like

learning how to open up and learning how

to embrace emotion and what has that

journey been like for you as you've been

like going through it i mean it's been

hell like

i hate every second of it

but i think

it's definitely

made me feel

like a stronger sense of identity

because

i think when i was growing up i was so

kind of embarrassed of how

kind of like hysterical i was like i

always felt things so deeply

because i wasn't really seeing that

around me

i felt like i had to kind of

like shut it down like stop stop acting

crying at every film you watch like

that's not

it's not normal um

yeah i really kind of tried to numb

my emotions for such a long time even

though i didn't realize that's why

people were drawn to me because like i

could express things

in ways that like a lot of people

struggle to but then yeah i just went

completely the other way

never acknowledged my feelings never

expressed them

and yeah just focus my attention onto

other people so that i didn't have to

deal with

anything that was going on with me and

yeah i think whilst i've been

trying to just

yeah focus on my emotions and tolerate

them more than anything else like it's

become such a part of my identity again

to like just be a big

feeler i'm a scorpio like is it so in my

do you feel kind of more proud now to

embrace that side of you and kind of

just be like yeah this is who i am

i think so like i still find it really

challenging to be vulnerable

to it's such a weird thing to say but

like it seems so much more normal to

express emotion when it's like about

something external or like

i think because especially with like

mental illness as a whole like

it's so easy to invalidate it because

like you feel crazy obviously

so yeah it's easier to

respond to things that aren't just in my

head

but i think

it's nice to be able to validate myself

now and be like okay i feel this way

because of this and this and this and

i'm not just like overreacting to

how's sharing these songs and kind of

seeing the reaction to it and people

saying you know maybe they feel a

similar way kind of made you feel uh

less alone in your own feelings and your

own mental health uh journey

again like in lockdown i was so

like no one was ever going to understand

and that's why there's no point even

talking about it i think

so many people feel the same thing and

these songs like i don't even know if it

was intentional at the time but the

each song is almost peeling back a layer

like that disconnection from

my own kind of like mind and body

meant that like there was literally

that like represented me in any way

since which is such a good thing for me

because i honestly like in that time

i thought that was it i genuinely

convinced myself like it is over i'm

never gonna feel again i don't want to

feel again and i can't continue being a

musician if that's the case

on this album you deal with things like

guilt and fear and trauma but you also

kind of balance it with this uh very

self-aware thing of like knowing where

you're privileged that you are

privileged and you have that position in

acknowledge that privilege on on this

like in your own head and validate your

felt just very embarrassed and very

there is always someone worse off and

don't like people feeling sorry for me

always an element of like

also just a big fear of vulnerability
