Five Miami artists you need to know about

What is normally seen as the city you flock to on spring break is slowly turning into a music industry hotspot. More than ever, people are turning to Miami, with its large Caribbean and African-American population, for their dose of culture. Miami has had a long history of producing game-changing and influential artists that span genres. Whether it was the groove of Gloria Estefan’s Latin pop or Uncle Luke and his echoing bass, Miami’s music has always been on the map. With the help of more contemporary artists like the City Girls and Denzel Curry, people are finally tuning in to what the 305 has to offer. Here are five Miami artists you need to know about. 

Dyna Edyne

Singer and songwriter Dyna Edyne has been a familiar face on the Miami creative scene for a while but she’s finally starting to come into her own as an artist. The soulful R&B singer, who has influences of Erykah Badu and Jill Scott, did covers of popular songs before releasing her debut mixtape ’10-14′ in 2014. Years later, her musical prowess has led her to being featured on an album by Miami’s very own, Trina.

BEAM

Be everything and more – this is what rapper BEAM name stands for and what he strives for with his music. The musician, who originally hails from Kingston, Jamaica, racked up production credits for songs by 21 Savage and 2 Chainz before releasing his debut EP ‘Beam 95’ last year. His sonic influences range from trap, dancehall, 90s rap and gospel.

Hood Brat

Miami emcee’s Hood Brat work feels like a homage to the fierce and unapologetic rap that permeated the city in the 90s. With a raw fashion sense to match that hard-to-miss Miami flow, she is making her mark in a world that is now catching up to the genius of female rappers. Kiddo Marv

Hailing from North Miami, Kiddo Marv is something of a staple within the community. The Haitian rapper has deep roots in Miami and has collaborated with many of the city’s established and rising artists like the City Girls, Zoey Dollaz and Major Nine. His work ranges from infectious ballads dedicated to women to hardcore street anthems.

Johnny Oz

The Broward-county native is shaking up the scene with his raging brash music. Since his debut in 2015, he has amassed a large following almost immediately.
