[Applause]
0:16
how was your set it was actually it was
0:18
beautiful I had a great time like as a
0:20
performer I don't know what was like for
0:21
the audience but it was it was lovely
0:23
had a great time yeah um the crowd was
0:25
like so attentive and yeah and it was
0:28
like good crowd as well which I didn't
0:29
you never know I'm not I'm not from
0:30
gloucestershire so you never know but um
0:32
it was just a beautiful time I had a
0:34
great time yeah I watched it and I
0:36
thought it was really beautiful oh thank
0:37
you so much thank you
0:39
um and is this your first barn on the
0:40
farm it is it is my first man on the
0:42
farm it's a great Festival the lineup is
0:44
just so perfect yeah and it's a really
0:46
nice atmosphere everyone's just like so
0:48
I'm not so like involved and so present
0:51
and having a good time which is nice but
0:52
yeah I'm gonna try and catch everyone
0:53
tonight so nice should be good to see
0:56
you I'm gonna try and catch Fizz flight
0:59
the staves holy
1:02
there are more that I would have loved
1:03
to seen but I wasn't here until today
1:05
but um the lineup is just great yeah I'm
1:07
so excited about it yeah oh yeah it's a
1:09
lovely atmosphere I almost fell careful
1:11
now that's why
1:12
um is this your first straw or two I
1:14
know
1:16
Our Lives
1:18
so
1:20
okay that's all we do you know do I have
1:22
electricity up there so we have to just
1:24
find some entertainment yeah in the
1:26
fields
1:27
um yeah so your set was really beautiful
1:30
and I'm quite captivated by your lyrics
1:33
thank you and I wanted to
1:35
specifically talk to you about well I
1:38
think you're a phenomenal songwriter
1:39
thank you and I think your lyrics are
1:42
just very relatable and beautiful and I
1:45
wondered is that something that came
1:48
really naturally to you or is it
1:49
something you uh were taught how did you
1:52
learn to write in such a
1:54
a beautiful narration of your life thank
1:57
you
1:58
um
1:59
I think that like for me it's just it
2:01
comes the writing comes naturally
2:03
because it's just like my form of self
2:05
therapy and I guess it's just like I
2:07
think it's always been my kind of first
2:08
point of call for processing things so
2:11
in that sense it's it's a natural
2:12
process
2:14
um thank you for calling me beautiful I
2:15
don't know it's just it's just like it's
2:18
just kind of what happens for me um it's
2:19
it's like it depends on the song some
2:21
songs Timor of a push and require a bit
2:24
more tinkering and a bit more
2:25
um thought but some songs are really
2:28
just kind of like diary entry they just
2:30
pour out but um generally with with
2:32
lyrics especially I find them just like
2:34
the most
2:35
um
2:36
they're just the most effective form of
2:37
like understanding what's happening in
2:39
my hand and what's happening around me
2:40
so in that way it's a natural thing but
2:43
um
2:43
yeah I don't know yeah I feel like
2:45
it's uh it's just been what I've always
2:47
done so it's hard to I can't really
2:48
think about the I try to not like muddle
2:51
it with with thought too much try to let
2:53
it just happen you know nice yeah that's
2:55
cool how long did complex take you to
2:57
ride that was a quick one because it was
2:59
like it was like one of those things
3:01
where I was just in it was just the
3:03
exact right moment like I just struck
3:04
the right chord
3:05
and I was just like kind of I had like I
3:08
think I'd like I'd like bumped into
3:10
someone that just brought back
3:11
like tons from the past then suddenly I
3:14
was in this like state that just felt
3:16
like I was ready to say some other
3:18
things I hadn't said before oh and I
3:19
just felt it was like I mean that's what
3:21
I mean about like it's such a processing
3:22
tool because it's like
3:24
being able to just like say something
3:27
that you've been thinking or feeling for
3:28
a while but it's hard to articulate and
3:30
then suddenly it works
3:32
um so that's where that song was and I
3:33
had no thought behind it and that's why
3:34
it still baffles me what happened with
3:35
that song because it was just like it
3:38
was just like an evening of me like kind
3:41
of like mulling over the past yeah and
3:43
suddenly it was like
3:44
heard by millions of people so it's kind
3:46
of this crazy process but yeah it was
3:48
very it was very much like a kind of
3:50
quick Eve evening or a few evenings
3:53
of just like
3:56
you know looking back and reflecting on
3:58
stuff and they worked out well I guess
3:59
but yeah very well yeah yeah it's a real
4:02
skill being able to articulate your
4:04
feelings in that way thank you yeah I
4:08
think I'm like probably chewing this by
4:09
the way it's like becoming like it's
4:10
like emulsifying yeah yeah
4:13
am I right in saying that you released a
4:15
song whilst you're at Uni
4:17
there's a few songs actually I released
4:19
what's that like oh it was hard it was
4:21
hard I had zero pounds I use all my
4:23
student loans to pay for like
4:26
doing a music video and like putting it
4:28
on Spotify which costs a lot of money
4:30
and I didn't have any it was kind of
4:32
like one of those things where I was
4:33
like scraping together pennies I had
4:34
some friends work for free and stuff and
4:35
it came together I did like an EP when I
4:37
was like 19.
4:39
put that out called games I play and it
4:42
was like that very like it was just like
4:43
kind of like
4:44
we can do the best we can do right now
4:46
and then and then the song Ring I was
4:47
happy with I think that then like I had
4:49
a friend who produced it with me and
4:51
then that was like a nice like chapter
4:53
and then it was all while I was at Uni
4:55
so it was like there's something popping
4:56
off over there
4:58
foreign
5:00
[Music]
5:01
some drummer doing a sound check and
5:03
being way extra they love doing that um
5:06
oh yeah I was just like basically I was
5:08
just like at Uni and it's hard to do
5:09
both and also I was working and stuff so
5:11
it's like a lot to do at once but it's
5:14
so fun I think that like I think that
5:15
when you're in it you're like just
5:17
stressed and running around but like in
5:19
hindsight like obviously it's such a
5:21
bubble Union it's like nice to I do like
5:23
quite I feel quite nostalgic about that
5:25
time and then I released a second song
5:26
at Uni last year
5:29
um called second single bed
5:30
[Music]
5:31
um and then I I yeah and then I I left I
5:34
went into three years of unique last
5:36
year and then
5:37
that's me done that but it feels like a
5:38
lifetime ago yeah um to be honest but
5:40
it's hard to do both it's hard to do
5:42
both and I envy people that can do it
5:44
very well yeah honestly yeah that's a
5:46
lot so what
5:48
um also
5:49
before you um sang White Lies you it was
5:53
really funny you were just saying like
5:54
there's a few lyrics in there that kind
5:56
of allude to a bit of like a [ __ ] boys
5:59
stage in your life and you don't get
6:01
enough credit for just that yeah like
6:03
give me the incredible when I first had
6:05
that song I was straight up like oh my
6:06
God like it totally spoke to me I was
6:08
like I do all this are you a [ __ ] boy
6:10
yeah yeah I love you you're not fair
6:11
it's hard because it was like
6:14
I don't think I was being a fat boy at
6:15
the time but I think it's one of those
6:16
times where like I
6:20
perfect
6:21
it's probably what I'm gonna say no um
6:23
it was like it had been a long time
6:25
coming
6:26
it was this this muddled this great area
6:28
with someone and then I all this stuff
6:29
happened with [ __ ] hell all this
6:31
stuff happened with
6:32
um complex and then suddenly I was like
6:34
living a different life and I realized I
6:35
kind of realized once I'd moved away
6:38
like not just physically but like into a
6:41
new life I realized how little that was
6:43
serving me but like you still have so
6:46
much care for the person yeah and it's
6:48
that kind of like
6:50
I don't know on yourself but you know
6:51
that when you're saying these things you
6:52
don't really mean them and like you
6:56
had known for so long we were like it's
6:57
in this gray area and it was
7:02
and it was written I feel such a
7:03
different person there yeah I knew
7:05
you're the same you're kind of stuck in
7:06
that thing for me and you're not serving
7:08
my life yeah but it's a hard one because
7:10
the song is about them that ambivalence
7:12
when I wrote with Matt Maltese and I
7:13
went in
7:14
my first ever writing session and I went
7:17
in and I just spoke about how like I
7:19
don't know if I just don't feel anything
7:20
for him anymore because I was so busy
7:23
and I'm away from him
7:25
if I saw him would I feel the same yeah
7:28
um and turns out I I wouldn't I didn't
7:32
tell me yeah no I totally know what you
7:34
mean yeah perfect thank you so much so
7:37
much I got a restaurant right kind of
7:39
tastes nice if anything that was a good
7:41
Insight thank you so much thank you for
7:43
having me I thought I forget that I'm
7:44
gonna be here for you all day foreign
